I’m toying with idea of blogging while we are on the Grand Tour, but only if it’s going to be relatively easy and cheap - preferably free. I don’t know if my old laptop is up to wifi access but Sean will have a decent laptop that can be used. The biggest problem I can see is getting free wifi access. Macdonalds is supposed to offer free access around the world but do we really want to spend our time in France and Italy sitting in Macdonalds?

This entry is really a test of Blogdesk which I have used before and which seems to be the ideal solution to mobile blogging. I can type up an entry each day and simply save it to upload whenever there is internet access and I don’t have to be online any longer than it takes to upload. It’s a pretty neat piece of software which gives almost as much control and the Wordpress dashboard but doesn’t require you to be online as you type. I’ll just save this now and upload it in a while. If it works I might just be blogging while we are away.

  1. hope your mobile blog works.. have fun!

  2. Tsk c’mon Les, don’t keep us in suspense!!! How was La Grande Tour??

  3. It was a grand trip with the old camper behaving impeccably throughout the 2,800 miles. I will write about it soon - hopefully.

On our return things unforeseen occurred. We called into Sandy’s 87 year old mum on the way home for a surprise only to find her distraught because Sandy’s brother (who looks after her) had been taken into hospital while we were away with liver and kidney failure caused drugs wrongly administered by his GP. We stayed down there (Essex) for a few days and then I came home to try and get on with the house decorating. Sandy was due to come home today as her brother had been discharged last Friday but we learned this morning that he has had to go back into hospital. Sandy is still looking after her mum and I’m on my own trying to complete the decorating (and cook for one which is a nightmare!). It’s all a lot easier with two of you.

All in all my head is not into writing up the trip (or sorting out the amazing photos) but hopefully I’ll get to it shortly.

  4. Oh dear Les, that sounds a horrible end to your lovely trip. really hope your brother in law recovers quickly, and you can all get back to normal..

  5. Some fantastic photos - really beautiful. Can I ask are you Les and Sandy who started Page 6 - the Atari magazine. I was a subscriber for many years from issue one, and couldn’t wait to get a copy through the door every two months I think it was. I remember meeting both briefly at one of the home micro fairs in the old days (PCW I think). Enjoy you retirement and thanks for the so many years of pleasure your magazine gave me - I still have then to this day!

  6. Vic, not sure how you managed to associate Les and Sandy from some obscure blog about moving to The Outer Hebrides with Page 6 but you are absolutely right!

Many thanks for your kind words. I have looked back every so often and can’t believe how I ever managed to put the magazine together over all those years and I am still amazed at how much it affected people’s lives and how much it meant to so many people. Thanks again.

My copies are packed and ready to go with us!
