Well after the initial flurry of interest it has now gone rather quiet with no interest in the house for the past week. A couple came last weekend and were very impressed saying it ‘was just what they wanted’ but I suspect that they were not actually intending to buy but just seeing what is about. Their house (just up the road) doesn’t appear to be for sale. Guess we’ll just have to weather this sort of thing.

Real limbo time now. A few things left to do on the house but I can’t get motivated to do them. Keep looking at the estate agents sites in the Western Isles but all it does is make it worse! If only we had been sensible when we were young and saved our money instead of spending it!

  1. Hi

Just come across your very interesting blog. We are currently researching material for a short film on Lewis focusing on those who leave, and those who move to the isle. We are looking to interview people like yourself who are about to upsticks and take the plunge so to speak. The film if commissioned is being done through the Scottish Documentary Institute based in Edinburgh College of Art. If you would be interested in taking part in the film or finding a wee bit more about it please do get in touch. We do share one thing in common, a camper, we have had campers for ever and took our one up to the Hebrides last year Driving from Lewis down to Bara last May?june, fantastic trip.

    best wishes

    Eric

  2. Thanks for your interest. I am sure that the majority of people would jump at the chance to be ‘in a film’ but I have had plenty of 15 minutes in my time. One of the reasons for moving to The Outer Hebrides is to leave all that behind. Good luck anyway.

What inspired our move to Lewis was a drive in 2005 in a Renault Espace plus tent from The Butt of Lewis down to Vatersay. We had to abandon the tent on a couple of occasions so a camper would have been much better! Bought the camper last year with the view of getting down to The Uists for odd weeks once we are living up there.

Tell you what though, if you buy our house in the next few weeks I’ll star in any sort of movie you want to make!

  3. I am interested in your quest to move to the Hebrides. A relative did just that a few years ago and absolutely loves his new life in a small village. It’s important to have goals and dreams but things happen at the right time and not always when we want them too. Patience is essential.

  4. Oh Les, there speaks the voice of desperation-”ANY sort of movie you care to make?”
    - not to worry, you’ll get there, it’s just horrible being in limbo, I know. We spent the best part of six months waiting for the right flat at the right time to come up in Millport- but I’m so glad we bought what we did now. At least we didn’t have to sell too- tough times ahead, but we’re all rooting for you to get your Hebridean Dream.

  5. Not desperation LL, I’ve always fancied starring in that kind of movie  just worried that I might fail the audition

  6. Ha I see Les! I’m sure you’re not alone in that nagging insecurity.. but I see a new and exciting career for you in Lewis! I’m sure the broad minded, liberal folks will be happy to welcome you- so long as you don’t do it on a Sunday!!
